What is HIFU or CFU?

HIFU or High intensive Frequency Ultrasound or Center Focused Ultrasound is the most sought after treatment on the market. It is a safe and non-invasive method for the treatment of skin ageing and for the reduction of the depth of wrinkles in the face/neck area, as well as for reshaping the body profile.

HIFU works on the deepest layer of skin but cannot replace the results of a face lift. However, it is a valid alternative, especially for those who are not ready for surgery or for patients who are trying to prolong the effects of cosmetic surgery.

Skin laxity is among the most common signs of aging.

What are the causes?

As time passes, elastin and collagen production decreases, the three-dimensional tissue support network, the SMAS loosens, derma and subcutaneous tissue starts thinning causing tissue failure which will be aggravated even more by the force of gravity.

What's the best solution?

Hifu treatments are the technology that can perform a non-surgical face and neck facelift in one sitting.

It uses high-intensity focused ultrasound that generates selective thermal energy at SMAS and derma level to stimulate collagen production, thus reducing skin relaxation, redefining facial contouring and improvement of  skin texture.

A HIFU facial uses ultrasound to create heat at a deep level in the skin. This heat damages targeted skin cells, causing the body to try to repair them. To do this, the body produces collagen to aid in cell regrowth. Collagen is a substance in the skin that gives it structure and elasticity.

According to the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, nonsurgical ultrasound treatments such as HIFU can:

  • tighten the skin on the neck

  • reduce the appearance of jowls

  • lift drooping eyelids or eyebrows

  • smooth wrinkles on the face

  • smooth and tighten chest skin

The type of ultrasound that this procedure uses is different than the ultrasound that doctors use for medical imaging. HIFU uses high energy waves to target specific areas of the body.

Specialists also use HIFU to treat tumors in much longer, more intense sessions that can last for up to 3 hours in an MRI scanner.

Procedure:

First step of HIFU facial rejuvenation is cleaning the chosen area of the face to be treated and applying an ultrasound gel.

A handheld device that emits the ultrasound waves in short bursts is used. Each session typically lasts 120 minutes.

Some people report mild discomfort during the treatment, and some experience very light burning sensation afterward. This will disappear after a couple of hours.

Unlike other cosmetic procedures, HIFU facials do not require any preparation. When a session is over, there is also no recovery time, which means that people can get on with their daily activities after receiving a HIFU treatment.

Clients may require between one and six sessions, depending on the results they want to achieve.

study evaluated the effectiveness of a HIFU facial after 7 days, 4 weeks, and 12 weeks. After 12 weeks, the participants’ skin elasticity had significantly improved in all the treated areas.

Other researchers studied the experience of 73 women and two men who underwent HIFU facials. Physicians evaluating the results reported an 80% improvement in facial and neck skin, while the rate of satisfaction among the participants was 78%.

FAQS

How long does HIFU face lift last?

One full face and neck HIFU session result can last up to 6 months.

What are the side effects of HIFU?

Side Effects Of A HIFU Facial

  • Pain. Ultrasonic therapy is usually painless, with users reporting a slight tingling sensation or warmth on the skin. ...

  • Blotchy skin. This was the most common side effect. This will diminish after a few hours.

  • Swelling.

  • Numbness.

  • Very rare side effect is the Hyper-pigmentation.

  • The absence of effect. Some clients that have a very weak muscle structure will experience no effect with HIFU treatments.

Can HIFU damage your skin?

HIFU is considered to be a safe treatment because the ultrasound energy targets only the tissue that is present below the surface of your skin. This way, patients can rest assured that HIFU will not cause any damage to the upper layers of their skin.

Does HIFU burn fat?

A proper HIFU procedure can reduce fats on the face / body. Excess facial fats such as jowls, double chin, and chubby cheeks can be reduced with a proper type of HIFU.
